Heath Hayes

Heath Hayes was a small mining village which developed in the mid-Victorian era when large deposits of coal were discovered.  This is part of the South Staffordshire coalfield.  Before long there were many mines in the area and the village grew to the north of the present Five Ways roundabout, which has always been a busy meeting of roads in the area.

Today Heath Hayes is a large and developing commuter area with many houses having been built in the past 10 years, increasing the population many times over.

Links with the Community

The school links closely with the community and there are links with the local shops, the Ranger Service, the churches and the local nursing home to name but a few.  The local Co-Op has been host to several visits and has provided materials for a recent small enterprise initative.  In recent years the children have been involved in many tree planting schemes and other projects to improve the local environment.  The latest project involves the planting of over 500 trees in the school grounds to provide a shelter belt on our very exposed field and to provide the children examples of the trees, after which, their houses are named viz. ash, holly, oak and pine.
