Horus
|
| Horus was the god of the sky and he had the head of a falcon or hawk. He wore the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. He was also the god of the pharaoh. His father was Osiris, the god of the afterlife. The evil Seth killed his father and, when he was grown up, Horus fought Seth to rule Egypt. Horus won the fight but Seth plucked Horus eye out. The eye of Horus (the wadjet) was the favourite amulet, worn around the neck, of people in ancient Egypt. Horus was married to Hathor, goddess of love. The temple of Horus at Edfu is one of the most complete still standing in Egypt. |
