| Heracles Strangles Lion | ||
| Yesterday
the great warrior Heracles completed the first of the tasks he must perform for King
Eurystheus to make amends for killing his family. He put to death the mighty Lion of
Nemea.
A man called Phrixus saw what happened. He told us he heard an almighty roar. "I thought the lion was killing somebody - he usually is! I went to see what was going on and I couldn’t believe my eyes! I saw Heracles actually wrestling the lion!" We found out later that our hero had tried to kill the lion with his bow and arrow. Apparently the arrows just bounced off the lion’s coat. Heracles had no choice but to fight the monster with his bare hands. Phrixus went on to tell us, "The fight was ferocious. Heracles had his little finger bitten off but this only made him angrier and stronger. |
Heracles tackles the Lion of Nemea He grasped the lion tightly around the neck and squeezed. The lion choked to death. It was a sight to see I can tell you!"Heracles then skinned the lion and now he wears the skin for protection. "If it stopped my arrows it will stop anything," said Heracles.
