| Heracles Banishes Birds | ||
| Yesterday
the mighty Heracles arrived back at Tiryns having completed his sixth labour, to get rid
of the Stymphalian Birds.
These monstrous, man-eating birds have bronze claws and beaks. They also fire bronze spikes out of their wings. It was fortunate that Heracles had his lion-skin armour on. We talked to Heracles yesterday and he told us how he had defeated them. "I would never have been able to rid Stymphalia of the birds if it wasnt for Athena and the Hydras blood."
The monstrous Stymphalian Birds |
Heracles shoots the Stymphalian Birds Athena gave him a rattle to scare the birds out of their nests. They took to the skies in their thousands all at once. Heracles started to fire his arrows tipped with the deadly poison of the Hydra. The birds started firing their spikes but they just bounced off his lion-skin coat. He told us that he must have killed at least a hundred of them but all the rest flew away never to return. Reporters:Philip Butcher & William Burrows |
