| Hero Gets Golden Girdle | ||
| Yesterday
Heracles returned to Tiryns after he had successfully completed his ninth labour, which
was to fetch the golden girdle of Hippolyte, the Queen of the Amazons. It has taken him
many months to sail east to the shores of the Black Sea and then back home but he said
that it had been worth it.
Heracles told us that King Eurystheus wanted him to get the belt for his daughter. Heracles said, "At first it seemed I would get it with little trouble at all. Hippolyte seemed to like me. She offered it as a token of her affection." |
Things
then turned nasty. The amazons thought our hero meant to kill their queen. We suspect Hera
had been at work trying to stir up trouble. They attached Heracles.
"They tried to kill me! I had to defend myself and I killed many of the amazons. Hippolyte gave me the girdle so that I would not kill all of her warriors. After that I left and sailed back. I was sad that I had to kill those women but I had no choice." Reporters:Lauren Udale & Catherine Ellis |
