Baby Kills Two Snakes!

Last night a strange thing happened at the palace. The baby boy belonging to King Amphitryon and Queen Alcmene strangled two poisonous snakes. It has been rumoured that the baby, Heracles, is the son of Zeus. After this we can well believe it!

The deadly serpents slithered into Heracles’ cradle in the dead of night no doubt believing that he was "easy meat". King Amphitryon told us the rest of the story.

"I heard a commotion going on in Heracles’ nursery so I hurried to his room and saw him sitting in his cradle strangling the two serpents. I couldn’t believe my eyes! He is a big lad for only 10 months old but to cope with such danger in such a fearless manner, at any age, is incredible!" Once the king got over his shock he disposed of the snakes. He said he was surprised that the snakes got into the bedroom because it has never happened before.

So why did they appear now? If Heracles is truly the son of Zeus then his wife, Hera, will not be pleased!

Was Hera responsible?

Perhaps the reason why the two snakes mysteriously appeared was the vengeful goddess’ doing. If so, Heracles had better beware in the future!
