Sadness at Heartbreaking

Death of Heracles

The whole of Greece is in mourning today after hearing the news of the death of the greatest hero of them all, Heracles. He leaves behind a wife and seven children. He will be sadly missed.

This tradegy is made even more tragic by the manner of his death which was very gruesome. He was poisoned by a magic robe that his loving wife, Deianeira, innocently gave to him. She was told that it would make Heracles faithful to her but it took him away from her instead. We suspect Hera may be behind this vile piece of trickery.

The robe was stuck to Heracles’ body like glue and caused him so much agony that he thought the only way to get rid of this pain was to die. He made his very own funeral pyre. He used his club as a pillow, his lionskin as a blanket and set the pyre alight.

According to witnesses there was then a great flashing light above the fire. Was he rescued from the flames by his father, Zeus?

Did Zeus rescue Heracles from the flames?

We hope so - if anyone deserves to live on Mount Olympus as an immortal it is the greatest of the great heroes of Greece, Heracles.
