Heracles Free at Last!

Yesterday Heracles was free at last from Eurystheus having taken back Cerberus, the hound of Hades. We interviewed the man himself now that his labours are completed after ten long years of hardship.

We asked him which labour he thought was the hardest. He told us that he thought that killing the Hydra, which had a dog’s body and nine snakes’ heads. As soon as Heracles struck one head off, two grew in it’s place. "If Iolaus hadn’t been with me on that one things could have got tricky! He lit the torch and handed it to me. That way I was able to hack of the heads and seal the necks. The blood of the Hydra has proved very useful since then as you know."

We asked him what he was going to do now that he was a free man. He told us that he might go and join Jason on his ship The Argo on his quest to find the Golden Fleece. "This sounds just my sort of adventure," he said. "I really like the idea of becoming an Argonaut."

Heracles leaves Tiryns for yet more adventures

After that he intends to travel to Olympia and take part in the next Olympic Games. "I think I would do really well in the combat sports like wrestling, boxing and the pankration." We agree. Heracles, the mighiest of the mighty, has not yet finished doing great deeds. Far from it.
