Trojans Defeated at Last!

After ten long years the Trojans are defeated! Menelaus and his wife Helen are reunited. She was kidnapped by Paris, the Trojan prince and son of King Priam. Our brave Greek soldiers, who have been besieging Troy for the past ten years, were on the brink of giving up when the wily Odysseus thought of a cunning plan to turn defeat into glorious victory.

Odysseus’s plan was to make an enormous wooden horse and tell the Trojans that it was a gift from the gods. One of his soldiers would stay behind and tell them this. If the Trojans asked why he stayed behind he would tell them that he had a quarrel with Odysseus and he didn’t want to sail with him. Odysseus told twenty of our bravest soldiers to hide in the horse while the other Greek soldiers sailed off and waited for the signal.

Then the Greeks in the horse waited for the stupid Trojans to wheel the horse into the city. Cassandra, the Trojan king’s daughter, told the Trojans that it was a trick and not to take it in, but the Trojans thought she was mad and didn’t believe her. They took the wooden horse in and wild celebrations began.

In the middle of the night, while the Trojans slept, out crept Odysseus and his men. They waved a torch in the air so that the other Greeks would come back to Troy. They opened the gate to let the Greek army in. Then the Greek soldiers started to destroy the city and take no mercy on the people and kill them all. Menelaus found Helen whilst his army looted the town.

Now, their ships bursting with treasure, our victorious soldiers are at last returning to Greece and a glorious welcome.
