Odysseus Shipwrecked!

Yesterday we received the sad news that Odysseus and his brave men have been shipwrecked and are presumed dead. Having managed to to escape Scylla and Charybdis Odysseus sailed on to the island of the sun god where his men stupidly ate one of Hyperion’s cattle. The god sent a storm and Odysseus’s ship was smashed. All of the crew, it is feared, are drowned.

After passing the Sirens Odysseus sailed on to a narrow strait guarded by Scylla, a six headed monster, on one side and Charybdis the treacherous whirlpool on the other. Scylla has snapping dogs at her waist. The dogs have wolf's eyes and their fangs are sharp and fearsome. Six of his men were killed by it but they avoided the whirlpool and quickly sailed to safer water.

They then made there way to the island of the sun god, Hyperion. Odysseus told all of his men that they were NOT to eat the sacred cows as Teiresias had warned, but while Odysseus went on to explore the island his brave but foolish men gave in to their hunger.

They ran after the fattest cow, captured it, roasted it and feasted upon it. When Odysseus came back he was horrified at what they had done. He and his men quickly sailed away from the island but it was too late. The sun god sent a ferocious storm that sank Odysseus’s ship and killed all his men. This is indeed a sad end for those brave heroes of Troy. May they find peace at last.
