| Great
news! It appears that our hero Odysseus is coming home after twenty years of hardship and
heart-break. He is being transported to Ithaca by the kindly king of the Phaeacians.
Odysseus had been shipwrecked again, after he left Calypso's island, by
another storm, sent no doubt by the wrath of Poseidon. He tried to swim to safety but it
was no good the storm was too rough, the waves forced him under the water. He gasped for
air, he swam as hard as he could trying to get to the top. It seemed that this really was
the end for our hero. He was just about to give up swimming when a sea nymph, Leukothea,
appeared and took him to safety on a beach.
Odysseus was bruised, had cuts all over him and was half
drowned. He awoke and, despite being tired, he searched the island for anyone who could
help him. He came across some women doing the laundry in a stream. He approached and one
of the women introduced herself as Princess Nausicaa, the young daughter of the King of
the Phaeacians. |

Odysseus
was taken to the King who agreed to help him. He generously gave our hero a ship and a
full crew. Yesterday Odysseus set sail for home. Will he get there at long last? We hope
so for if anyone deserves some luck it is Odysseus!
