Grand Canyon

Hi there! Here I am by the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. It was made by the Colorado River. The canyon is 217 miles long 4-18 miles wide and 1 mile deep. The rocks form towers and deep valleys in the main gorge.  Water forms tributary valleys through rock layered with limestone, sandstone, shale and other rocks. The rocks that rise from the canyon floor are spectacular in colour and height. The canyon is quite recent but the rock is not. Layers of rock show marine deposits which tell us that the canyon floor was once the bottom of a shallow sea.
