Statue of Liberty

Hi there! Here I am by the Statue of Liberty in New York, USA. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French to the American people. The Statue was a brainchild of the sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and has become a symbol of freedom throughout the world. In Emma Lazaru’s poem, which is engraved on the base, Lady Liberty says, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free". The statue loomed over Paris before its home on Bedloe’s Island (now called Liberty Island) was ready. Unveiled by President Grover Cleveland on 28th October 1886, the statue was restored for its 100th anniversary. The statue dominates New York harbour with a height of 305ft (93m) from ground to the torch.
