Mayan Temple

Hi there! Here I am at one of the Mayan Temples in Mexico. The Mayan people built temples and pyramids in honour of their Gods, as well as their Kings. The usual design was to have a number of pyramid-type mounds with the main temple being the highest. They built big stone pyramids in the middle of the jungle and calculated the solar year and the lunar month. Religion was an important part of Mayan life and it ruled almost everything. Priests were considered to be the most important out of all of the people in the Mayan tribes. Around 250AD the Mayans had developed an amazing understanding of astronomy and mathematics. In Chichen Itza, the Mayans displayed their knowledge of the astronomical calendar in time temples. The most famous of these is El Castillo, a Mayan calendar set in stone, with 365 steps representing the days of the year.
