| Hi there! Here I am standing next to a windmill in the
Netherlands (which means "low-lying lands"). Holland (or the Netherlands) is one
of the Low Countries of Europe along with Belgium and Luxembourg. For centuries the Dutch
relied on windmills to drain the land. They had built about 9,000 of them by the 19th
century. Windmills like the one behind me are still in use today.
