Christmas in Italy

"Buon Natale"
Most Italian homes have a wooden decoration called Ceppo. People put it in their window. On Christmas Eve candles are lit and children dance around it and sing and play tambourines.

They think a witch called La Befana (which means "Epiphany") will come and give them their presents. Italian children take their shoes off and hang them so that La Befana will come and put their presents in them. Children who haven't been good get left coal!
On Christmas Eve the mothers will bake cakes called Il Panoro, Il Panettone or Il Torrone. After they have a pudding called La Frutta Secca.
