Christmas in Norway

"God Jul"
Every year the Norwegians send a Christmas tree to Britain as a "thank you" for the help given to them in the 2nd World War. Christmas trees are important to the people of Norway. They not only put up Christmas trees in their homes but in their gardens as well! Great bunches of grain are tied to its branches for the birds.

The children always look forward to a visit from a little gnome called Julenisse (Christmas Elf) at Christmas time. Julenisse guards all the farm animals. Julenisse puts presents under the Christmas tree only if the children are good and not naughty. After the fun of opening the presents, young and old join hands around the Christmas tree and sing together.
