Christmas in Romania
"Sarbatori Vesele"
In Romania carols are very important. Children go from house to house singing carols, reciting poems and telling old stories during the Christmas season.
The leader carries a steaua (star) on a pole with a picture of the nativity in the middle. Five days before Christmas a pig is killed and prepared for the Christmas dinner - this is called "Ignatius" as 20th December is St. Ignatius' Day.
