As artists were 'banned' from painting images of humans and animals, patterns are also based on flower and plant forms. These flower/plant designs are STYLISED (a perfected, altered, 'not true to life' version). The forms are either reduced to simple geometric shapes or shown as highly elaborate interwoven designs.

When flower designs are used to ILLUMINATE the Neskhi style of writing it
is known as ARABESQUE.
