INTRODUCTION

"Asian Fabrics" was a project
devised by Peter Richards, an artist and teacher at Abbot Beyne School (Staffordshire), which looks at the way in which culture and religion have dictated the style of Islamic art and architecture.  The following pages focus on the use of pat
tern and imagery found in Islamic textiles which are restricted by the strict teachings of the Quran.  Actual images of fabrics have been used to illustrate the site as well as reproductions of work created by pupils at Abbot Beyne.

A selection of the highly decorative material used in traditional dress.  These are an excellent example of the typical designs used in Asian Fabrics.
