The success of any school is built upon the
relationships which exist between its many 'share
holders'.
All those involved in the life of Abbs
Cross School are encouraged to work together for the
benefit of the young people in its care. Governors, staff,
both teaching and support, pupils themselves, parents and
carers and other members of the local community have a
combined responsibility.
Parents are invited to play an active
part in the education of their children. A full
understanding of the rigours behind the current curriculum
and pupil entitlement will ensure appropriate support.
There will be regular communication throughout the year to
aid this understanding but parents are invited to contact
the school if there are any matters of concern. An
appointment with the Year Co-ordinator, Senior member of staff
or Head Master will resolve any problems which may be
experienced from time to time.
All pupils are expected to do homework
taking from about 40 minutes per evening in Year 7, and
rising as pupils progress through the school. The school
believes that in this way pupils will acquire the basic
self-discipline of working on their own as well as the
opportunity to demonstrate their individual progress, to
themselves and to their teachers. A homework timetable
will be sent home at the beginning of each year. Pupils
are issued with a diary in which details of this
additional work are recorded. Parents are asked to check
regularly and sign the pupil diary thus reinforcing the
regular contact between home and school.
"The excellent links with local
schools and colleges are raising aspirations and
providing pupils with very good educational
experiences". Ofsted November 2004
