"There is a clear vision for the improvement of the school" (Ofsted 1999)

The main building was erected in 1958 with an additional block being built in 1974. These are supplemented by more recent refurbishments. Governors are committed to a planned improvement of facilities and the ongoing redecoration programme is part of a wider accommodation strategy being considered.

The current facilities include:

  • assembly hall with a large stage which is well equipped with lighting
  • large gymnasium with changing rooms
  • six science laboratories
  • four language rooms equipped with computers and audio aids
  • an impressive ICT centre comprising a 3 room, 100 station network
  • two home economics rooms
  • two art and craft rooms
  • purpose built music suite with teaching rooms and practice rooms
  • drama workshop
  • three modern technology workshops
  • careers centre
  • modern purpose resource centre with over 8000 volumes, tapes and computers with CD Roms (open until 5.00 pm each day)
  • Fitness Centre
  • Learning Support and Study Centre

Many of the traditional classroom areas which are suited by department enjoy up to date facilities and are supported by ICT and audio-visual equipment. We have ten classrooms with interactive whiteboard technology and every room is served by PC link to our network and supervised internet accessibility.

In addition the school enjoys a large playing field which includes pitches for rugby, soccer, hockey, netball plus a concrete cricket strip and four new all-weather tennis courts.

The school also makes extensive use of the Borough facilities at the Europa Centre and Hornchurch Sports Complex.

The school also has a soon to be completed Sports and Leisure Centre housing a sports hall, swimming pool and fitness centre. Our new Performing Arts College includes Music, Drama, Dance and recording facilities.
