 DescriptionFor many years some pupils, following assessments at the ACE Centre, have been loaned communication aids for short-term evaluation prior to purchasing. Within the context of LLP this loan is backed up by substantial training and support, some of it on-site and some of it via a regular videoconference linkup to the ACE Centre. The project, funded from the Dept. of Health’s Section 64, aims to establish what the factors for success are when lending complex AAC equipment. For example, does a short-term loan inform the process of making a reliable and confident purchasing decision. Furthermore, the project will assess the advantages and disadvantages of training and supporting face-to-face compared to using remote support systems such as videoconferencing.
