This began as a pilot project involving collaboration between the ACE Centre and the Open University. Two multimedia training CDs ("Let’s Talk" & "Helping Switch Users to Access Technology") were produced, evaluated and published on a Macintosh and Apple Pippin. However, it was clear that, if further use of the authoring tools developed by the Open University for creating multimedia training CDs were to be made, then the mechanism for delivering these resources into Assistive Technology training environments would have to be broadened. A decision was taken, first to convert the Apple based materials into HTML Web format, and then create Windows compatible CDs for wider distribution. An HTML version of the Switch Access CD is available for beta testing from Kings College, London. The next phase of the project will be to complete the HTML conversions of both CDs and then produce the Windows versions. Thereafter, new multimedia training resources will be authored and published. The ACE Centre is looking to combine these multimedia training resources within distance training and support frameworks, such as those currently under development.
