<< Back to Research Index
PCAD being used on a palmtopDescription
PCAD is a hand-held augmentative & alternative communication device with a dynamic colour display, a built-in microphone and digitised speech output. It is designed specifically for non-speaking dysphasic and brain injured users. It is different from other AAC devices in that it is the first attempt to design a hardware and software interface specifically for people with dysphasia. It will be commercially distributed during 2000. If successful, there are plans to extend its functionality so that it can be vof alue to other communicatively impaired users, such as those with severe dysarthria or learning difficulties.
