WordAid V1.3 (Windows)
<< Back to Software Index  |  WordAid specifications
Text accelerators in the form of predictors like Prophet can sometimes be too powerful and sophisticated for some people, especially children, to use. The alternative is to use WordAid.
WordAid incorporates many of the features of a predictor but without moving the position of words in a list according to frequency and recency of use or by association.
Word processor with wordaid pop-up
WordAid is simpler because it allows the user to decide where a new word should go in a topic list or whether, alternatively, it should go into an alphabetically ordered list where it is easy to find. WordAid is impressive in reducing unnecessary keystrokes for slow typists or switch users because it directly interacts with the text being typed, and offers automatic capitalisation of letters and autospacing after a full-stop or any other sentence terminator. WordAid is DDE aware and works with any Windows compatible application including, of course, a whole range of word processors and desktop publishing software.

Settings
The settings enable you to decide what the minimum number of letters to be typed should be before a word in the wordlist is displayed. Short words can be eliminated from the list via the settings as these can slow the user down by unnecessarily distracting his/her attention.

Custom Facilities
One of the best features in WordAid is its ability to allow you to add or delete words from the topic or alphabetical wordlists and thereby build up a whole library of specialised vocabularies. You can also specify Hotkeys for selection of particular word from the wordlist to insert into the text area. Hotkeys can be redefined at will.

Moving Wordlists
When the wordlist obscures the text cursor, it is important to be able to move the list out of the way. This can be done both with the mouse and from the keyboard.

Switch Access
Switch users will be able to use this program via specialised SAW Selection Sets.
