Work on a variety of projects to complete a ring, pendant brooch or bracelet and finally an individual piece of your design. Equipment and materials available through the College.

Relief Wood Carving: 64/01A; John Storm; Mon 13.15 to 15.45; 22/09/1997; 10 mtgs; WCT; £51.00 (A). Open to students of all abilities - beginners welcome. An introduction to the basics through relief carving and chip carving. Work at your own pace. In the round work can be carried out when experienced. Modelling and designs included. All tools and equipment provided. Practice timber free, carving timber about £1.50 a piece.

Woodblock Printing: 64/05A; John Storm; Mon 18.30 to 21.00; 22/09/1997; 10 mtgs; WCT; £51.00 (A). Allows a variety of approaches, from spontaneous single colour prints carved energetically into the block, to more considered multi-block projects. You will be helped to create your own designs and to work towards a 3-colour print.

Picture Framing: 64/07A; Ivan Nicholls; Thu 9.30 to 16.00; 16/10/1997; 1 mtg; KCC; £35.00. This course is intended to introduce students to the basic skills of picture framing and the pleasure which can be obtained by making 3D pictures using identical pieces of wrapping paper. Each picture is steadily built up and can be mounted on a china plate or used as a front for a greetings card. The effect is achieved by cutting and shaping the pictures which are then fixed in place with a silicon glue and later varnished. Mistakes can be rectified at almost any stage! This one day workshop is suitable as an introduction to this easy and effective craft.

Silk Painting: 61/42A; Meryl Askew; Tue 19.00 to 21.00; 30/09/1997; 10 mtgs; WCT; £40.90 (-). An introduction to a very absorbing & relaxing art. You don't need to have any previous art knowledge or skill, but you will design and make silk pieces to take away with you. Turn these into scarves, wall hangings, cushion covers etc. Bring your own materials or purchase them from the tutor.

Introduction to Batik: 61/43A; Catherine Paterson; Wed 19.00 to 21.00; 22/10/1997; 6 mtgs; WAW; £26.00. This is a wax resist method of dyeing using Tjantings natural hair brushes and templates to create an individual design. Artistic skills are not necessary - tracing paper will compensate. You will need to bring rubber gloves, paper, pencil, bucket, strainer, measuring jug, cup & apron.

This course is intended to introduce students to the basic skills of picture framing and the pleasure which can be obtained by converting a print, photograph or original work of art into finished picture. No previous knowledge, skill or experience is required and all the equipment and materials for practising will be provided. It is not intended that you will become a carpenter, but rather you will learn how to utilise framing equipment that is available to the amateur. The two day workshop will cover the cutting & pinning of frames, glass cutting and the production of a small mirror - materials for can be bought at the class for about £3.

Glass Painting for Beginners: 66/24A; Catherine Stancliffe; Thu 9.30 to 12.30; 02/10/1997; 1 mtg: WAW; £10.00. During this morning workshop you will learn to transfer and hand paint designs onto glass to create a decorative object with a stained glass look. Bring a small item of glassware to paint eg. jar, vase, nightlite, a child's paintbrush and a towel. All other materials are available from the tutor for £1.
