The sixteenth car, a Rover Metro Gti, maintained the British theme somewhat. This car was nothing like the gas guzzling gearbox mashing monster I had owned before and was very refined indeed, with a new transverse engine and gearbox arangement where the gearbox was side mounted rather than slung underneath mini-style and the excellent 105bhp 'K' series engine. Inside things were just as cosy as the last Metro but now with all sorts of extra refinements making this a proper car which represented the rennaisance taking place in the British motor industry at that time which even saw Rover introducing a 'New' MG notably the RV8, its just a pity it was'nt made at Abingdon really.
The car generally handled very well indeed with its 'evolution' cross-linked hydragas suspension which gave 'active-ride' (a buzz-word of the time), it also featured fat low profiles on 14 inch multi-spoke alloys which just added to the grip. The performance was'nt real Gti stuff as this was a small car but it was still capable of a nine second dash to sixty and a top speed somewhere above 115 I think.
This car was eventualy sold to a budding young racing driver from Kidlington who wanted something faster and newer than his AX GT, the money raised from this was put towards paying some of my mortgage off the rest was banked for a short while before being put towards the next car.
