The author of this site is me Ashley Webster, I am 40 years old and have lived in Abingdon for over 30 years, firstly living in south Abingdon just off Caldecott Road and then for the last 16 years in north Abingdon. So now you are wondering how does this connect with these websites etc, let me explain... I have always (for as long as I can remember) been interested in electronic gadgetry which has cost me very dearly (monetarily) over the years but has in a way prepared me for this one of my greatest challenges so far, namely mastering the PC, the Internet and more recently writing websites. I have been interested in Fiat Motor cars since I started driving some 23 years ago and thanks to a friend of mine (Adrian Ezard) who was very enthusiastic about them I have been hooked ever since, I have owned 15 Fiat's so far (and 26 cars in total), most being the type of cars Fiat make best... small ones ! Also the historic nature of Abingdon's past fascinates me and I promise to start expanding that side of writing when the Cinquecento site quietens down a little. What better way than to share some of this enthusiasm for either subject with you, 'the masses' out there on the net. Some of my previous web publishing exploits include the Tipo 16v "Sedicivalvole" website which ceased to exist along with my less than useless AOL account in June '98, also the "John Mason School" website which I started writing in '96 (for a friend at the time) and was never really fully completed, I have also been involved with several other smaller sites but they are'nt really worth mentioning here.
This site and all pages connected with it were created using using a free program called Arachnophilia which is written by Paul Lutus and distributed under the Careware banner (as opposed to shareware) and is just great for creating the simple, easy to write, easy to browse, webpages you are looking at right now, I must also thank Laura Lemay for writing her book "Teach yourself Web Publishing in a week", (it took me a little longer !!) but without which I would have been totally lost and which remains a most excellent reference volume to this very day.
I am nowadays employed by Radford Control Systems of Newbury Berkshire who design, manufacture, install, service and maintain, electronic refrigeration control, monitoring and alarm systems, I have now worked for them for over six years following some sixteen years with Wathes Refrigeration of Leicester (now known as WR Refrigeration) as a refrigeration service engineer.
Personal thanks of course going out to Mr Ezard (as mentioned above) who started the ball rolling some 15 Fiats ago, Jules for getting me to junk my proper computer (Commodore Amiga) while it was still worth something in favour of the Windows based PC (it'll never catch on) and also for suggesting I get onto this internet thingy (this certainly won't catch on) and not forgetting all the free Sega Rally, (laterly Sega Rally 2) enabling me to meet and beat Jeremy Clarkson and Tiff Needell (to name but a few) at Grove in '98.
