The Albert Pye School is named after the late Albert Pye, in recognition of his long years of public service, particularly in the field of education.

The school is a co-educational day school for children aged between rising four and nine years. This includes a nursery class with 39 part time places.

At 9 years of age our children transfer to Beccles Middle School until they are 13 years old after which they attend Sir John Leman High School.

The school has three separate buildings dating from Victorian times to the 1960s. One building is for the Early Years unit, another houses the Key Stage One pupils and the third is for Key Stage Two. This makes for an interesting school site with some fine grounds.

The school has two fields and two playgrounds. In the larger of these there is an adventure playground. We also have an outside, heated swimming pool for all the children to use in the latter half of the summer term.

The grounds of the school are particularly attractive and include a pond. We also have access to a larger pond and wildlife area.

THE AIMS OF THE SCHOOL

1.To enable each child to reach their full potential.

2.To enable each child to develop physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually in order to become a well-balanced individual.

In order to achieve the above there has to be highly effective teaching and learning. Therefore we believe that the following are of the utmost importance:

1.Positive inter-personal relationships.

2.Clear learning objectives.

3.High expectations from pupils.

4.Careful planning and preparation of lessons.

5.Different levels of work for different abilities.

6.A good pace in each lesson.

7.A clear knowledge of each subject by the teacher.

8.Continual assessment of how well the pupils are doing.

9.Good resources.

ORGANISATION

The children are arranged in classes based on age so that each class will have children of mixed ability. Currently, there is one age group in each class except for one class of Reception and Year One where the ages are mixed.

The Early Years unit consists of children in the Nursery and Reception classes. Key Stage One begins in the September of the year in which a child reaches their sixth birthday. At the end of Year Two (aged 7 years) the children complete Key Stage One and are tested according to statutory requirements. At the beginning of Year Three, the children embark on Key Stage Two which continues until the end of Year Six (at Beccles Middle School).
