Berks Bonanza 2006

Despite fears that rain over the weekend may dampen spirits at the Grasstrack event of the year, there was a great sense of relief that the big day itself started with the promise of sunshine.

Months and weeks of advanced preparation had culminated in everything coming together on the day. The track had been carefully re-positioned and marked out, the grass cut and watered and the hundreds of wooden posts knocked in and painted by the hardworking setup team - this is a well oiled operation due to the experience gained from organising this event over a period of many years!

The finishing touches were added over the weekend - with flags and bunting, catering tents and marquees, toilets and PA systems slotting in to place, all adding to this picturesque setting and making it an event to be truly proud of.

Top grasstrack riders descended on us from all over the country, along with an excellent turnout of thousands of spectators.

Although the weather clouded over again as the practice sessions got under way, the scene was already set for some spectacular racing. The day gradually brightened up and the track dried out, resulting in some keenly contested heats and finals, which finished in glorious sunshine. Follow this link to see some initial photographs.
