British Waterways - Responsible for a certain section of
waterway, including conserving the surrounding environment and wildlife habitat.

Canal - A man-made construction, built during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, to transport goods and cargo around the country.

Lock Gates  -
These are required where a canal route has to travel up or down hill.  They are a pair of huge wooden gates the depth of the canal, which are opened and closed to filter water in or out of the lock section. Therefore enabling the barge to sail out, continuing its journey at a new water level.
