| I am currently looking out for information, photographs,
plans and artifacts concerning Gibbs and Canning Ltd, of Glascote, Tamworth.
This has turned into a major interest for me. See my Gibbs
and Canning page. |
| As a teacher with responsibility for geography and history I am always
keeping an eye open for interesting resources. I am also willing to help others in this
area, when I can. |
Another interest is genealogy. I love to share information and to research
around the subject. I like to know about both the people and places in my families.
I completed the Foundation Module for
History Research with the Open University. This has equipped me for history
research, a favourite activity for me. |
My hobbies include gardening, walking, crafts and looking at
nature. I
enjoy looking at bats when I can, especially when on holiday in Wales. I love to
visit art galleries, and sometimes plan days out to fit a new one in. A visit to The New Art Gallery at Walsall was perfect for combining with the good
shopping facilities.
Also, as you no doubt guessed, my interests include computing. I'm not ashamed to say that I like to play computer games. With a friend I have
completed tasteful strategy games such as Myst, Shivers 2, Master Lu, 11th Hour,
Riven,
Under a Killing Moon, Phantasmagoria, Broken Sword I and Broken Sword II and the various Zork games. We have
recently enjoyed The Watchmaker. Has anybody a suggestion
for our next game? |
Family History
Lots of my lines are not practical
to follow. Streluk is an Ukrainian name. My family came from not far from
Luboml. Although I am interested in these origins I am far from an expert. Other names
include Henley, from Buckinghamshire, Brindley from Warwickshire, Mason and Skellett of
Tamworth, Staffordshire and Fern and Parker from Derbyshire. I have one line from
Essex, but I know little about where Mary Nash came from.
|
| Family History Societies I belong to the Buckinghamshire
Family History Society and the Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and heraldry.
Both are excellent.
|
| Record Offices My favourite record office is the Lichfield
Diocesan Record Office because they hold Wills and Bishop's Transcripts for a huge area of
the Midlands. Many of my best finds have been discovered there.
|
Amelia Grace is an
interesting ancestor. She was born
in Whaddon, Buckinghamshire, UK in 1849. She married Robert Henley and died in 1906 at
Wilnecote, Warwickshire, UK. I often wonder if she saw her old home again, or her
family, after she left. |
William Henley,
her son, joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914. He settled in Camrose, Alberta,
Canada. What a long way from home he lived. |
| To see a list of the families being researched please go to my Family History Page. This is a fairly long list and may take a
while to load. |
