Mystery building

1904. It was ordered that the seal of the Company be affixed to a contract for supply of terra cotta to Mr. Thomas Mason dated 12th October 1904. Does anybody recognise these details?

 

Albert Hall. Unknown location.

1908. The Managing Director reported as to cause of unavoidable delay in completion of terra cotta contract for Albert Hall and was instructed as to replying to the Architects letter of 7th instant. (More research needed.

1934. Each side of the large doors for the fire engines has pillars. The central block included windows with ornamentation. Includes the coat of arms of Birmingham. A Tamworth Herald newspaper article tells how Gerald Hastilow, apprentice draughtsman, was the model for the arm on the Birmingham crest.

1900-1902A bulky symmetrical building in red brick covered with a grid of buff terracotta bays. The effect of the building depends on the build-up of the massive central gable, & on the orderly concentration of detail. The detail itself - wreaths & babies’ heads-is very routine, perhaps from Gibbs & Cannings’ catalogue (The Victorian Society, tiles & terracotta in Birmingham, Nov. 1975)  Photos
The shield-bearing animals near the top of the building seem to be almost identical to those on Spanish Place, London, which is definitely by Gibbs and Canning.

1908. This school is beautifully decorated with buff terracotta. The central doorway is in an elaborately decorated porch with an arch over it. This decoration is repeated on the floor above, including the arch decoration.
