1868 Interior of buff and grey terracotta. The terracotta vaulting was comparable to that inside Hansom’s church located little over a mile away, and was supplied by the same manufacturer, Gibbs and Canning. The stylised ferns on the frieze and the nailheads on the vaulting-ribs were similar to some motifs designed for the Natural History Museum. (Terracotta Revivial)

1869-71. The cream colour of most of the terracotta is similar to that used on the Albert Hall. Much of the decoration is made up of square shapes which form a tile-like pattern. These are placed either in bands or in blocks. The larger blocks of pattern are broken up by decorated roundels.

Manchester, Oxford Road, M13 9WL St. Mary’s Hospital for Women & Children, John Ely (Another source give Alfred Waterhouse as the architect) 1909 Red brick & terracotta , symmetrical & mildly Edwardian. Big domed towers at each end of  a range with projecting gable bays. Slightly angled blocks to the rear. Within the body of the building the upper floor chapel with an ornate hammerbeam roof & original furnishings including a font. (Manchester, Pevsner Architectureal Guides, Clare Hartwell)

1938 Sadly £215 was taken off price of £598-10-0 for poor quality terracotta
(Black & White Photograph c.1936-1940, Blake Collection, The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery) The Broadway Cinema, Meir. An art-deco style cinema which opened in 1936 at a cost of £26,000

Melton Mowbray Grammar School by Shelbourne, Edward & Son

1907-10, Edward VII Upper School. Edwardian Baroque with lots of hard edged rustication in salmon and buff terracotta. A big clock tower with arcaded upper stage. (Pevsner, Leicester and Rutland, Penguin, 1984, page 319) (E-mail sent and replied to. Send details of findings) Information so far anecdotal. More research needed.

Northampton, St. James Road, South side, SP 743605 Padmore and Barnes premises 1905 Mocassin Indian plaque for a firm of bootmakers, Padmore and Barnes, modelled by John Evans. Factory now occupied by Church’s Shoes.

1913. This is a three storey building in red brick and tawny terracotta. It has the words ‘FOOTSHAPE’ and ‘BOOTWORKS’ in large terracotta letters on the top of the building. The central section has the date the firm was established and the date of the building set into roundels. The office Entrance is ornate with swags and drops. In ‘Tawny’.

1915. Now closed and awaiting redevelopment. Large building. Buff terracotta. However - one photograph of a coat of arms, labelled Nottingham Co-op turns out to be the coat of arms of Northampton.(Photos in Tamworth Castle Archives labelled Nottingham Co-op but many be incorrect) more research needed.

Republic of Ireland, 157 Lowe. Rathmines Road, Dublin 6 Rathmines Library, Bachelor & Hicks 1913 In 1902 the Council applied for Carnegie Fund, in 1903 was received £7,500 from Fund & later increased to £8,500. Present site purchased. A Technical Institute was planned also. In 1913 the Library opened. Bachelor & Hicks were the Architects, Thompsons were the builders. From its opening it was a success. The fine stained glass window facing the main staircase was designed by William  Morris.
