 | The Moat House, a
Tudor building in Lichfield Street. It is now a restaurant. Prince Charles was entertained
here whilst his father, King James stayed at the castle in 1617.

 | Ladybridge is
situated just after the rivers Anker and Tame merge. Beyond the bridge is Ladymeadow, a
quiet peaceful reserve which also contains meadow plants.

 | Tamworth Arts
Centre is in Lower Gungate. It was originally a theatre, where the famous Sarah Siddons
performed. In 1870 it was converted to a chapel. In 1974 it became a theatre once again. |
 | The Assembly Rooms,
Corporation Street, scene of many good shows and concerts. |
 | St.Editha's church
in Church Street. The church was founded in about 963. The tower has a rare double
staircase. |
 | The Interior of the
church. Look at the beautiful roof. It contains many monuments and effigies and beautiful
stained glass windows. |
 | The War Memorial in
its new location. It was previously in the entrance hall of the hospital, now demolished. |
 | Tamworth Castle,
with its Norman shell keep, high on it's defensive motte. |
 | The Castle Grounds,
colourful all year round and so close to the town centre. Notice the Town Hall and Church
in the background. Come here to eat your sandwiches, watch the world go by or on your way
to the castle. |
 | The Herringbone
Wall in the Castle Grounds. It is so called because of the pattern the stonework makes. |
 | The Tamworth Savings
Bank, founded by Sir Robert Peel in 1823. It flourished until 1897. It is situated in
Ladybank. |
 | The statue of Sir
Robert Peel standing in front of the window from which he made his 'Tamworth Manifesto'
speech in 1834. The statue was erected in 1852. |
 | The Town Hall,
built with money from Thomas Guy in 1701. The butter market used to be held under its
arches. Now part of the market surrounds it. |
 | The Almshouses,
which replaced those built by Thomas Guy and are still called Guy's almshouses. They
were founded in 1678 for people who lived in the hamlets around Tamworth. |
 | George Street with
the busy and colourful market. The market is held on Saturdays and Tuesdays. A craft
market is held near the church on Thursdays. |
 | Modern shops in the
the Gungate Precinct. |
 | Traditional shops
are selling cheeses, fish and meat. |
 | The Stained Glass
Window in the modern Ankerside shopping precinct. It shows many of the buildings and much
of the history of Tamworth. |
