Tamworth is an historic town. It has grown
from a small market town to a large overspill town for Birmingham. It now has many
facilities. These include out of town shopping, the Snowdome and Tamworth Castle.
Famous sons of Tamworth include Sir Robert
Peel. Sir Robert lived at the nearby Drayton Manor, now an amusement park. He was MP for
Tamworth, and of course, Prime Minister. His statue is in this photograph. Visit
The Peel Web
with lots of information about him.
Another famous inhabitant was Thomas Guy, founder of the famous London hospital. He was
also MP for Tamworth, but when let down by voters he became a Londoner and built his
hospital there. He paid to have this splendid town hall built.
