This
course aims to develop critically receptive attitudes and self-motivation
as part of the artistic personality of the student. Teaching is in the
form of individual and group tutorials
,
and as far as is practical, is adapted to the individual requirements
of each student. During the

first year an emphasis is placed on learning to handle design procedures. Higher and standard level courses are open to beginners as well as more experienced art students. Higher Level a) Studio (Practical) The course consists of two and three-dimensional work such as painting, drawing, textile design, weaving, hand and machine knitting, batik, ceramics (functional and sculptural pottery), sculpture. As part of the two year course all students will explore printmaking techniques (monotype, dry-point, line-etching, aquatint, lithography and silk-screen printing) b) Those Art students who are considering joining the Design Craft and Video Service will be in a position to specialize in the design and various production techniques of machine knitwear. c) Appreciation and Historical Study of Art and Design During the two year course the student will produce two or more research workbooks. The workbook is a personal record of the student's research in the studio and in art appreciation and art history as well as museum or studio visits, lectures, video programs and discussions. Standard level Consists of a) above A research workbook is kept for private use. The course aims for the same quality of work as that at Higher Level but less of it.
