Environmental Studies



Nursery

The new term will see all Nursery classes 'springing' into action with themes of 'The Playground', 'Growing' and 'Baby Animals'. Before our visits to school we will be going on our end of year trip. This is still a very BIG secret, but we are sure it will be a great day out for everyone

Primary 1

We will continue our topic on 'Growth'. We will be planting sunflower seeds and growing beans. We will also cover a technology based topic on 'The Teddy Bear's Picnic'. We intend taking our teddies out of school to Ballater Environmental Education Centre to explore the outdoor environment.
A Steam Train

Primary 2

Our topic on 'Transport' will be based with an emphasis on 'forces'. We hope to have a trip to the Alford Transport Museum to look at transport through the ages. We also plan to have a ride on the steam train at Haughton Park.

A Girl Detective

Primary 2/3

Our topic this term will involve a local study. The Primary 3s will look closely at 'Our Village', whilst Primary 2s develop their understanding of transport by visiting Alford Transport Museum.

Primary 3

A-sketching we will go
Watch out, we're out and about, finding our way around Banchory - visiting places of interest and sketching the High Street

Primary 4B

Animal caravan
We will also be exploring Banchory this term looking at the different houses for our topic 'Houses and Homes'. We will visit Stonehaven to compare the houses there with our houses in Banchory and we will go to Crathes to observe animal homes.

Primary 4A and 4C Prize winning Veggies?

We shall round off our 'Houses and Homes' project with a visit to Stonehaven to make a comparison with Banchory. The main topic for the summer will be 'Plants', so look out for some gardening tips and the eating of vegetables!

From the Dee... Primary 4/5 and Primary 5A, 5B and 5C ...to the Sea

This term the Primary 5 classes and Primary 4/5 will be taking a journey from 'The Dee to the Sea'. We shall be looking at bridges along the route and studying the harbour in Aberdeen, looking at how the river is utilised. Later in the term we shall be pond-dipping at Crathes as part of our 'Minibeasts' project. There will also be an opportunity to 'Help the Aged' in mid May. We will need lots of helpers.............!
Celtic Knot

Primary 6A

We will be revisiting our 'Woodlands Project' briefly to compare different seasons and then embark on a 'Celtic Journey' looking at the travels of the early Celtic Saints and the spread of Celtic Culture.

Primary 6B

Fast but safe!
We will be doing our Cycle Training and looking at Safety as road-users. We will also be looking into the mechanics of gears, levers and friction. Our bike check is on 24/4/99 and our test is on 16/6/99.

Primary 6C

Hills are great!
We will embark on our 'Woodlands Project' and continue with our cycle training.

Cycling is fun!

Primary 6D

A busy term ahead for us. We will begin Cycle training in May. This will involve class based work as well as practical sessions. Our bike check is on 23/4/99 and our test will be on 16/6/99. We will also be looking at Scottish Woodlands which will hopefully involve a visit to Scolty Woods - PHEW!
The Fire Service will visit all P.6 classes on four occasions during May and June. All four P.6 classes will be looking at Forces and taking part in practical experiments to investigate their properties.

Primary 7A, 7B and 7C

It's the 'last term of the year' for P.7s - and a very busy one too! Highlights will include:-
Loch Insch Residential Trips
Academy Link Week - 9th - 11th June
The Young Speechmakers Competition
Year Group Special Assembly - 8th June
We will be taking a closer look at the Oil Industry and Shell/Satro will be visiting us for a day of experiments and workshops.
We will be continuing with Part Two of our Sex Education Programme - Babies will be our focus.
