Longwill School Curriculum Philosophy We provide a pleasant, active and stimulating environment which allows the process of education to develop naturally. We believe that learning is most effective when children are independant and involved in their education, that learning is best achieved from first hand experience of which visits form an integral part. National Curriculum All children are entitled to an education that is broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated to meet their individual need. The children at Longwill are no different. Their curriculum is delivered through carefully planned 'themes', selected because their content is rich in National Curriculum core and foundation subjects. We are able to deliver this curriculum effectively and in addition offer high levels of individual work because of a good adult to child ratio. Children's work is valued and can be seen imaginatively displayed throughout the school. Integration Opportunities for integrating with local main-stream school children are available and developed when they are felt to be mutually beneficial and appropriate. Sport Sport forms an essential part of the school's curriculum. Children are encouraged to take part in our physical activity programmes which are organised in school time and as extra-curricular activities, usually during lunch time. We have chess and gym clubs running at lunchtimes. Children have weekly sessions of PE, games and swimming, will be offered opportunity to develop Outward Bound skills, by attending a variety of courses organised by the school, the LEA and other agencies. Longwill School continues to support both area and national sporting competitions organised solely for deaf children. |
