Auchterellon Primary School

1st December - 4th December

Dear Auchterellon

Well it was a week wasn't it? Once again it was really nice to welcome a new set of environmental stewards to the Centre. The weather was a bit mixed wasn't it. Some days it was so cold and the next was warm. It is Winter isn't it? Anyway enough of my squawking lets go and have a look at some of the things we did this week.

Best wishes

Beecy

Here are some more electricity and water presentations... as well as some photos from the week.

Electricity
Turn lights off
We are using 163KWH
So stop using so much electricity!
Turn the lights off when you leave a room
Turn off the the T.V. and turn off the p.c.
Don't waste a lot of electricity
It costs a lot of money
Which is not very funny.
Electricity is not cheap
The bills can make you weep
As the fee is very deep
so...
SWITCH IT OFF!
Freya's in the dark... not because she is trying to save electricity but because it began to get dark at the end of the tree study.

Freya and clipboard in the dark
Here we are trying to save water by having a shower outside.
We're not coming out.. it's wet
Daily use of water by The Drips
If you kept the tap dripping, beware, you're wasting approximately 12000 litres a year.
We are lucky. We just have to turn the tap on to get water. Some people have to walk miles to get even a litre of water.
Yesterday we used 5627 litres of water in half a day. Imagine how many miles we would have had to walk to get that much.
We made a graph to show how much we had used. We decided that, to cut down the amount of water used we could
JUST SIMPLY TURN THE TAP OFF!
Here's an electricity rap.

Yesterday and this morning we used 180KWH of electricity
Turn it off.. Turn it off.. Turn it off!
We use a lot of electricity every day

Turn it off.. Turn it off.. Turn it off!
So let's try to use it in a better way
Turn it off.. Turn it off.. Turn it off!

So remember to turn it off when you're
FINISHED!
Here's Katie leaving the shower to get dried... wait a minute though, she's just had a shower with all her clothes on. Well at least they'll be clean!
Katie...wet and dry!
Here's a piece of writing inspired by the Scavenger Hunt.
My Favourite Thing
My Favourite thing in Nature is...
an oak leaf... because it is a coppery brown and green with a wavy shape and it smells like autumn woods
a Douglas Fir... because of the lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, fruit salad smell
a baby pine cone... because I think it is tiny, sweet and precious
a lichen... because it looks and feels like a tangled jumble of threads
a rough leaf... because it feels like beard or an elephant's skin or a cat's tongue

a piece of bone... because I can imagine my own story about what happened to the animal, like a window on a time machine
a rabbit poo... because it feels squishy and I like bunny rabbits and it reminds me of their fluffy tails and ears
a pheasant feather... because it's soft and light and it has a beautiful pattern on top. It looks like an eye.
This poem was written by John, Lauren, Joanne, Jodie, David, Peter, Ross, Lucy, Laura, Aimee and Siobhan
Now some more photos before I say good-bye
This is a branch Where's the tree?
Here are some of the girls busy with their tree study... and no, it's not dark... it's just the flash has gone off on the digital camera and made the background very black.
How tall? Where are we?
How tall? Now where did Mr. Taylor say we were going? Samantha points to our destination at the Burn o' Vat.

Well here we are at the end of yet another week. Thanks again for coming. Do keep in touch by Email... let us know how you are getting on... and by the way... have a really good Christmas.
