I've become a Snowy Owl

Balgownie Primary School

9th - 12th February 1999

Dear Balgownie

I am so sorry that you did not make it out this week. However as you will see from the photos below there is a lot of snow here. In fact you might say that I have become a Snowy owl. I sent my photographer out this morning to take these photos so you could at least have a virtual tour of the Centre. Not quite the same I know!

Beecy

Bell's car There is a lot of snow here as you can see from the picture of Bell's car.... The car park ...and the playground!
Meanwhile, inside, these sheets wait unused. First thing we do when we get here is to make the beds! Lonely sheets The bunks lie unoccupied. Empty Bunks
Even the male staffroom is empty Even the teacher's room is empty. No children in the lab The lab, usually a hub of activity, lies silent...
... as does the dining room, which is usually filled with the smell of home baking and fresh coffee. No cooking smells To your right is the kitchen where you would normally see Robbie, the chef, preparing the evening meal. No Chef!
A library empty of children The library remains unused... Where's Steven Hendry? ...and the snooker table lies dormant.
Meanwhile, Mrs Liddell, acting teacher in charge looks for something else to do. However she is so upset at Balgownie not being able to come that she has to go and have a cup of tea.... not that she needs much excuse! Mrs Liddell... lost! Even the frog is having a hard time of it! The frog... buried!
Cold enough for these It is cold here in Ballater as you can see... Footprints in the snow ... but at the same time it is very beautiful.
Finally this is a picture of the Stevenson's screen from which we get some weather data. A snowy Stevenson's Screen Scene There we are then... a virtual tour of the Centre and the weather we are experiencing at the moment.

Well it only remains for me to say goodbye and that we are sorry the weather prevented you from coming up and meeting me and my staff. Take care in the snow and be safe.

Best wishes

Beecy
