Longside Primary School

14th - 17th December 1998

Dear Longside

Well you were the last class of the year to keep my staff busy. You certainly managed that and more. It was really nice to see people from your school again. Let's hope it's not too long before you come back again. Anyway... on to the week. It was a strange week weather wise. The first day you arrived it was very warm, with the next day being considerably colder. It didn't stop us having some fun though, did it?

Anyway.. I do chirp on a bit so let's see what we have to offer... Lots of photographs for your viewing pleasure... as well as lots of other things.

Beecy

Well first we have some poetry which the weather group wrote to help them tell the rest of the class what was happening outside... as well as giving them some advice.
This is Ballater's weather today
Much too cold to go out and play
There are hardly any clouds in the sky

So the temperature is not too high
At 4 degrees C it's not very warm
It would be nice to stay in the dorm.
It's very dry and there's hardly any rain
But there's some wind according to the vane
There's 0.1mm of water
But that doesn't make it any hotter
The wind's blowing from the south west
But it's not at its very best.
We don't expect a great big storm
But it would still be best to wrap up warm
WRAP UP WARM!!!
The weather group busy preparing to take the stage.Hard at work, weather forecasting.
And a poem by the electricity group.
Tree studying
No this is not Gregor trying to save electricity by working in the dark, but he's down at the picnic area and the sun's gone down
If you wanna be hot
Don't get caught
Leaving the lights on
Because you really should not
So don't use as much electricity
Because you'll waste it
Because you'll waste it
Yeah!
Next on the list we have a poem by the water group.
The water we have used today
Could have been used a different way
Everyone here has had a shower
So everyone now smells like a flower

But they were in for far too long
Even when they knew it was wrong
While they brushed their shining teeth
The water was flowing down beneath
Six thousand litres and thirty seven
If we drank that much we'd be in heaven
Listen to what we say
And use less water than today
Raymond comes out of the waterfall
Here's Raymond having a shower... outside.
Nicholas leaves the water behind Nicholas and Nicola have also been for a shower in the great outdoors... something which Nicola seems particularly pleased about it would seem! Nicola, wet but happy
Lots of wet people
Well it would seem that everyone wanted to get into the act... they won't get very clean though... they all seem to have left their waterproofs on.
Okay, one last photo of the water thing... Girls... lost in water The girls in the middle of their shower.
Now we didn't spend all our time under the shower... that would have bee a bit of a waste of water, would it not? Sometimes we went out and actually worked up a sweat... this made having a shower even more worthwhile.
Tree sniffers... four actually At the bottom of Craigendarroch Nikki, Fiona, Aaron and Scott are engaging in the age-old tradition of tree sniffing.
Here's Mr. Taylor's group scaling the west face of Craigendarroch Almost at the top
Nikki and Leanne at the top At the top we find Nikki and Leanne posing for a quick snap having just reached the top of Craigendarroch. You can see Ballater in the background... it's a long way away isn't it?
Here's Robbie hard at work in the kitchen preparing a very special dinner for Longside. It was near to Christmas so Robbie put on a special Christmas meal. Chef serving up dinner
Christmas table Here's a Mr. Taylor's eye view of one of the tables on the left...
...and on the right some very patient diners at
Beecy's Diner.
Beecy's Christmas diners
Nikki's new hair There were some really peculiar hairstyles as you can see from the photo of Nikki.
Leanne experiencing a moment of shyness just before the crackers went off and she put on her new hat. Shy Leanne?
Let's tuck in! Come on girls... are you enjoying your food or not?
Well it would appear that Julie-Anne is certainly enjoying herself... in fact everyone seemed to have a really good time. We all said a very big thank you to Robbie and Sharon. Julie-Anne's jolly

During the week Mrs Addy did some really good artwork with the children. Here are two examples.
A nice tree drawing Good aren't they? Another nice tree drawing
If you have a look in the Gallery you'll maybe find some more pictures that the children did in their own time.

Anyway, it's time to go... thanks for taking the time to look in. Keep safe!
