Centre
Ballater Environmental Education Centre is located in the small, picturesque village of Ballater, in Royal Deeside. As part of Aberdeenshire Education, the Centre occupies the former village school and offers excellent, up to date facilities and is surrounded by magnificent scenery. The Ballater area, formed as a result of past glaciation, is one of great natural beauty and ecological diversity, boasting a large variety of natural habitats, including remnants of the Caledonian Forest.
Ballater, a planned village established circa 1800, which flourished with the coming of Queen Victoria and the railway, is the largest settlement in Upper Deeside.
The Centre offers a wide range of specialist and interdisciplinary field courses for schools, teachers and community groups. The key aim is to provide a stimulating learning experience in a diverse and attractive setting. The emphasis throughout is on direct experience, on increasing individual awareness, and on fostering an empathy with the environment.
