 Introduction

Blackfyne School formed in 1976 by the amalgamation of the former Consett Grammar School with Benfieldside Secondary School. It is a mixed comprehensive school for pupil's aged 11-16.

The School stands in it's own grounds on the former Grammar School site and has extensive playing fields including a first class cricket field and all weather athletics track. As a result of an extensive building programme, full specialist accommodation is available on a single site. They include specialist facilities for Design and Technology, Science, Information Technology and Business Studies, a Gymnasium, Sports Hall, Art, Music and Home Economics studies.

There is a close link between Blackfyne and its associated primary and junior schools. The school is thus the natural choice for parents who appreciate the importance of maintaining the community of their children's education at secondary level.
