Design and Technology Department

 

The aim of the D&T department is for all pupils to acquire and use relevant subject knowledge in Design and Technology.

Bishop Barrington School believes that pupils should be able to apply and understand the process of designing. They encourage pupils to design and make quality products using various resistant and compliant materials.

Topics covered in each year group: 

Year 7 Sharing Techniques, Colour Mixing,  Portraits.  Animal Pictures based on The artist Henri Rousseau,  Aboriginal Art,  3D art based upon an Artist.
Year 8 Graphic Poster Design.  Direct Observation.  Product Packaging - Making Aftershave/Perfume Boxes. Landscapes (using Monet).  Surreal Objects in a Bottle.
Year 9 Surreal Art.  Direct Observation. Perspective Identity Pictures.  3D Work Based on an Artist.
Year 10 Pencil Shading & Painting Portraits.  Picasso-Self-Portraits.  Countries Composition.  Landscapes.  Identity Paintings.
Year 11 A Range of Drawing and Painting Projects Such as: Identity, Countries, Time!

 

 

Teachers:

Mrs. Butterfield – Art & Design Teacher

Linda has been teaching at Bishop Barrington School for 9 years, and previously taught at Darlington Technical College and Polam Girls School. Linda has a BA(Hons) and MA(Hons) in Art.

Linda can draw and paint in a variety of media, and is a part-time practicing artist and accepts commissions. She is interested in photography, and is studying for a City & Guilds certificate. Linda enjoys traveling, painting and reading.

 

 

 

Mrs N Stuart - Art and Design Teacher

This is Mrs. Stuarts' fourth year at Bishop Barrington school. Previous teaching appointments include Northfield school, Billingham (3years) and Stockton & Billingham College of Further Education, mainly teaching special needs pupils. 

Mrs. Stuart has achieved an Honors Degree and PGCE by studying art and design at Leicester college & polytechnic. Her hobbies include making and selling silk painted and water colour cards.

 

 

Mrs. S Dransfield. Textiles Teacher

Mrs. Dransfield has now been teaching for 27 years. Previous teaching appointments include: Staindrop Secondary, County Durham. The Oaks Primary, Huddersfield. St. Albans Primary, Rochdale. Kirkholt, Modern Secondary. Hobbies include fell walking, painting, embroidery, reading and the theatre.

 

 

 

 

Mr. Taylor. Resistant Materials

This is Mr. Taylor's 2nd year at Bishop Barrington School. Previous teaching practices include Gumley House school, Isleworth and St Mark's RC school, Hounslow in Middlesex. Mr. Taylor studied at St Johns college, York where he achieved a BA (Hons) degree in Design and Technology. He then went on to continue his studies at Brunel university where he achieved a PGCE.

In his spare time Mr. Taylor enjoys swimming, traveling, motorcycles and restoring furniture.

Ms. Ridley

Ms. Ridley has been teaching at Bishop Barrington since March 2000. She actually qualified as a teacher in September 1998 and spent the next two years supply teaching.

Before Ms. Ridley entered education she was employed as a design draught person at G.P.T. in Newton Aycliffe. She obtained her academic qualifications at Sunderland University and Darlington College of Technology. Ms. Ridley currently holds a BA (Hons) in Primary Education, BA (Hons) Information Design, specialising in Environmental Illustration and a BTEC National in Design.

Ms. Ridley's hobbies and interests include attending evening classes to increase her obvious love of artistic knowledge and Taekwondo in which she is a 2nd Dan Instructor.
