Emotional Personal and Social Development

Our aim is to provide a secure environment where children are encouraged to become independent, self-motivated and self-disciplined, and become aware of the needs of others.

We will achieve this through encouraging children to:

  • Become secure and confident away from parent/care giver and feel able to describe their fears and/or insecurities.

  • Care for themselves and their personal safety.

  • Play co-operatively, take turns and share.

  • Show care and consider feelings of others.

  • Take responsibility for their own behaviour - and be prepared to accept correction and modification

  • Accept and understand reasons behind 'rules' within the nursery and to use equipment with care.

  • Learn to take responsibility for their own daily programme of activities, make choices  and develop independence, e.g. in dressing and personal hygiene

  • Accept direction and instruction when necessary to help them towards an understanding of why a specific task needs to be handled in a certain way.   Persevere in more difficult tasks.

  • Work alone, or as part of a small group.  Also working as part of the 'whole' group and with adults.  Form positive relationships with all members of group and begin to develop particular friendships with other children

  • Become aware of the importance of cultural and religious festivals in people's lives and develop positive attitudes to others whose gender, language, religion or culture is different from their own.

  • Care for the environment and other people in the community.
