Physical Development and Movement
Physical confidence gives children added confidence in other developmental areas.
We aim to present a stimulating physical and mental challenge to the child which in turn will encourage that child to:
be willing to 'have a go', and explore different ways of using their bodies in physical activity
trust adults
'try again'
be willing to listen and respond to music and imaginative ideas in rhythmic and expressive movement
concentrate
be part of the group and share limited resources in physical play and games
take pleasure in simple achievements and enjoy energetic activity both indoors and out and the feeling of well being that it brings
use large muscles in an adventurous way
*co-ordinate the action of the eyes and hands together in performing skilful adaptive movements
be safe in movement and in using tools and equipment
be aware of the importance of health and fitness
In the provision of *. above, skills which will be fostered will include:
personal skills - dressing and undressing, buttons, zippers, Velcro fastenings, buckles etc. using cutlery
construction tasks - building activities - connecting equipment etc.
jigsaws - spatial ability, snack preparations
use of tools - baking, woodwork, laying table
use of pencils, pens, crayons, paintbrushes etc.
use of scissors
pouring and filling
threading
Falhberg's Checklist and Sheridan's Checklist of developmental stages will be carefully considered in planning activities (Falkirk Council's 0-8 Guidelines Appendix 6).
