Expressive and Aesthetic Development

If children are to become creative and aesthetically aware, we must encourage them to appreciate beauty in the things they hear and see.

We aim to present practical opportunities through the provision of a wide variety of materials for use in music, art, drama and dance.    Through these activities children can invent, express thoughts and feelings, participate, interact, respond, explore and experiment.

This will be achieved by:

  • allowing the children to use  - chalks, crayons, pencils, pens, paints, materials, clay, wood, dough, construction equipment, building blocks, junk materials, collage materials etc.

and

by the provision of:-

  • dressing up clothes and materials for use in role play, non-pitched percussion instruments, musical tapes, story tapes, rhymes and opportunities to participate in singing games, singing, story telling, listening to stories, poetry, discussions, creative movement, role-play, miming and 'pretending' etc.

These creative and aesthetic activities may be separated either in response to the needs of the children or the developing centre of interest.   The interlinking of curricular areas is stuff real 'play' is made of.
