Nursery Class Policy

Health and Safety

Facilities in the nursery must be planned with care for the human needs they are designed to serve.     It will be the responsibility of all members of staff to assure the welfare and safety of the children.  We will achieve this through adhering to all security measures laid down in the nursery brochure for access to nursery area.

Also:

  • ensuring equipment is kept in good order and repairs are carried out punctually

  • regular checks of equipment such as scissors, sellotape holder, workbench tools, baking/cooking utensils etc.

  • from time to time risk assessments will be carried out by head teacher

  • adequate supervision of all areas at all times

  • 'specific' supervision of an area or a child or group of children who may be involved in an activity requiring this e.g. workbench activities and activities involving the use of the large hollow blocks, or physical activities within the nursery

  • the use of safety matting in areas requiring it

  • regular sterilizing of all small equipment

  • cleansing of large equipment

  • the use of sterilizing fluid in the water trough

  • informing parents immediately of any medical and/or learning difficulty, which may be linked to a medical problem, which staff have observed
